FUJIFILM's Newest Addition: FUJINON GF19-35mmT3.5 PZ OIS WR - A Wide-Angle Wonder (2026)

FUJIFILM has announced the FUJINON GF19-35mmT3.5 PZ OIS WR, an ultra-wide large-format cinema zoom lens that expands the GF cinema zoom line. This lens offers a 19-35mm focal range (equivalent to 15-28mm in 35mm film format) with a constant T3.5 aperture, built-in optical image stabilization, and internal servo control of focus, iris, and zoom. It's priced at $5,699 and ships on July 23, 2026.

The GF19-35mmT3.5 is designed to work seamlessly with the existing standard zoom, the GF32-90mm T3.5 PZ OIS WR, providing a versatile two-lens kit for the GFX System. Its wide-angle coverage and constant aperture make it ideal for run-and-gun and documentary work, minimizing crew workload and equipment changes.

Optically, the lens features 23 elements arranged in 15 groups, including four extra-low dispersion (ED) elements and three aspherical elements. This configuration suppresses aberrations across the zoom range while maintaining a compact barrel and constant T3.5 aperture. The 13-blade iris produces a nearly circular aperture, enhancing out-of-focus highlights, and the Nano GI coating reduces flare and ghosting from oblique light.

Physically, the lens measures approximately 8.74 inches (222mm) in length and weighs roughly 4.6 pounds (2.1kg), a restrained figure for an ultra-wide large-format cine zoom. It uses a three-ring system for independent manual control of focus, iris, and zoom, with a 200-degree rotation angle on the focus ring for precise, repeatable focus in shallow depth-of-field situations.

One of the key features of the lens is its built-in optical image stabilization (OIS), which is crucial for handheld work, especially on the ETERNA 55, which lacks in-body sensor stabilization. The OIS relies on improved shake-sensing accuracy and a refined mechanism, making it ideal for run-and-gun and documentary shooting.

In terms of pricing and availability, the FUJINON GF19-35mmT3.5 PZ OIS WR will be available from July 23, 2026, at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $5,699 USD. This lens marks a significant step forward in the versatility of the GFX System, but it remains to be seen if it will satisfy the need for a fast prime or a telephoto zoom lens.

Personally, I think the introduction of this lens is a game-changer for the GFX System, offering a more comprehensive and versatile kit for large-format cinematography. However, I'm still curious to see how it compares to other lenses in terms of performance and whether it will be enough to satisfy the demand for a fast prime or a telephoto zoom lens.
